soderstrom architects
central peninsula hospital //// Soldotna, Alaska
Project Description:
Soderstrom Architects assisted the Kenai Peninsula Borough with programming and planning the future needs of its 50-Bed community hospital. Previous planning had suggested a full replacement hospital, but costs were predicted to exceed available funding. We suggested a phased hospital replacement, placing some services into new space and using remaining funds to accommodate services left behind by extending the life of the existing buildings.
A variety of expansion scenarios were explored. The selected scheme placed a new addition north of the existing facility with new surgery, sterile processing, cardiopulmonary testing, general acute care beds, intensive care beds, pharmacy, and clinical lab. Building the new addition and shifting philosophies to a more patient-focused culture helped change CPH\'s image in its community.
