the mike fink restaurant //// Covington, Kentucky
Project Description:
REMODEL AND RENOVATE AN HISTORIC VESSEL
As an historic vessel listed on the National Historic Register the Mike Fink Restaurant has charmed Greater Cincinnati residents and visitors for decades. It was originally a working steam powered vessel which pushed freight barges up and down the Ohio and Mississippi. Later it was converted into a family owned restaurant. After decades of service as a local icon for downtown waterfront dining it needed many renovations.
When Radin Architecture suggested the re-arrangement of its major components to take better advantage of its powerful potential, the owner found these ideas irresistible.
ENHANCE THE RESTAURANT'S CHARACTER AS A TOURIST DESTINATION
The plan illustrates the same pleasurable dining barge attached to the city view side of the historic vessel as before but relocated forward to overlap the kitchen instead of the bar. This relocation released the bar from its decades of bondage. Previously the bar only had a close up view of the south shore's driftwood littered parking lot. Radin Architecture's design opens up a newly remodeled bar to enjoy the same spectacular downtown waterfront views as the dining barge. Seats in the bar and lounge with its unobstructed floor to ceiling glass just inches from the water will make the bar at the Mike Fink a favorite destination.
