Project Description:

In the early 1970’s we provided the initial planning and design of the state-of-the-art Detroit Receiving Hospital (DRH) Emergency Department.

For over 25 years we continued to be Architect of Record for Detroit Receiving Hospital. In the early 1990’s we developed the Master Facility Plan for Detroit Medical Center evaluating 2,500 beds, 7 hospitals and 50 ambulatory care centers.

Most recently, GLA expanded the Emergency Department from 36,000 s.f. to about 54,000 s.f.

The in-depth studies, programming, planning and design to achieve the finished project was a 3 year team effort. The project required that current operations be maintained at all times during construction.

Reconfiguration was developed in logical phases, permitting the ED to operate at full capacity at all times during the 9 independent construction phases.
