Project Description:

The 'Hobbit House' is a private museum cottage designed for a serious collector of J.R.R. Tolkien's books, original manuscripts and artifacts. The front facade was built into an existing 18th Century fieldstone wall and the primary entryway is a round, Spanish cedar door with a single pivot hinge. Other custom elements in the house are derived from Tolkien's sketches and descriptions, including the solid mahogany "butterfly window" with iron hardware forged by local craftsmen. Wile meeting museum-quality interior standards, the cottage is also a quiet sanctuary for solitude and contemplation.
