Who we are
At 3SIXØ, our design process is consistent, methodical and meticulous. We start each project with its characters, content, forces and limits. We converse with materials and imagine space. We ask, "What could this be?" We believe that architecture shapes experience. We strive to create an experience that is moving. 3SIXØ Architecture is based in Providence, Rhode Island. Material Reasoning: the exploration through materials in the creative process. We use materials to think. In the creative process that leads to design, a material’s properties can be used analogously to ideas that the project at hand involves. A rich syntax of relations can be developed that is invested with meaning.Phenomenal Awareness: Research of light, view, shadow, weight, balance, and sound is the ground or foundation of our work. Architecture is instrumental to phenomena and phenomena shape experience, like how light enters and defines space, a window frames a view or a corner forms a pocket of quiet.
The Whole, or the synthesis of the content, forces, and situation of a project, is developed through a spatial diagram. This diagram gives insight to the development of a solution. It is what holds all the issues, parameters, and limits coherently. Here lies the essential anatomy for our designs.
Constructive Measure: Form is developed from knowledge of materials and experience with construction. Constructive precision depends upon a careful calibration of tolerances, to anticipate and account for the behavior of material and the limits of workmanship.
